Why This Watch Matters

Just for its striking dial, this Mathey-Tissot deserves to be better known. The contrast between the grey dial and red accents on the chrono hand, rotating scale, and minute sub-register is indeed quite something.

The Full Story

Mathey-Tissot famously manufactured the Type 20 chronograph for Breguet, but the company also developed its own chronographs. Some were very similar to the Type 20, while some were very different, like the present example. The chunky case of this “Soccer” chronograph indicates it was produced in the 1970s, as does the combination of the grey and red colors on the dial and rotating inner bezel. It is incredibly legible, and wears substantially on the wrist, especially on the original bracelet.

What we Love and What You Should Know

Overall, this Mathey-Tissot is in excellent condition, without any flaws to highlight. The chunky case does not bear any deep scratches and has retained its original brushing. Similarly, the engravings on the caseback are still deep, offering further proof that it was not polished. The crowns are properly signed with the Mathey-Tissot logo, which is also found on the clasp of the original bracelet. Lastly, the grey dial is flawless with nicely contrasting sub-registers, and the correct black and red hands.
